Writing Time Tips

Because I have very little time these days now that I am back in the intense heat of southern India and have to look after a large garden and many potted plants, among other related chores, I have had to come up with ways to do my usual writing, editing, marketing and publishing work in four hours, instead of the usual six.

The good thing about the heat of the day here is that hardly anyone ventures out between noon and four p.m. So, I use that time for the bulk of my writing time. I spend two hours a day on my own manuscript and divide the remaining two on the work my writer clients need done.

Mornings I am free to answer e-mail, do personal errands, attend darshan(sight of God) of Sai Baba, my Guru, here in Prasanthi Nilayam where I live, and prepare the meals for the day. Afternoon darshan is between 4 and 6 p.m. I usually attend and follow up that time with more personal errands. Here in the little village where I live we don't use cars to get around. I do as much walking as possible even in the intense heat because sitting at my computer much of the day is not good for the body. Also, after morning meditation I try to work for two hours in the garden, nothing fancy, just cleaning and watering.

So those writers who tell me that they don't have time to write, just haven't sat down and figured out a schedule that will meet their writing needs. There is nothing mysterious to getting the work written and published. You just have to DO IT.
